EFD Studios took part in ExpoPantalla 2025, a key meeting point for Mexico’s audiovisual industry, bringing together professionals, companies, students, and innovative projects around technology, training, and content creation. This year, we reaffirmed our commitment to technological innovation, professional education, and a more connected and collaborative national film industry.
From the World Trade Center in Mexico City, EFD Studios showcased a representative selection of its cinematographic equipment rental solutions, featuring cutting-edge cameras such as the Sony VENICE 2, RED Raptor, ARRI ALEXA 35, Vintage Glass optics, lighting systems, and more. As part of our mission to provide world-class tools for productions of all sizes, the EFD Studios team offered personalized guidance to attendees, producers, and creators looking to explore the full technical capabilities of each piece of gear.
Freelensing Cine: A Liberated Perspective
Innovation took center stage with the Mexican premiere of the Freelensing Cine system, developed in collaboration with its creator, cinematographer Sergio de Uña, AEC. This groundbreaking system allows for shooting with the lens detached from the sensor, while maintaining precise control over the focal plane—ideal for projects in search of a more expressive or auteur visual language.
The presentation explored the system’s expressive and technical possibilities:
- Parallel and perpendicular shifts of the focal plane
- Tilt and swing movements of the optical axis from the sensor plane
- Free and precise adjustment of depth of field
- Smooth, intuitive movement with suspended optics
- Expanded sensor coverage = greater compositional freedom
All of these tools enable a freer, more poetic and subjective visual approach—perfect for filmmakers working within experimental or emotionally driven aesthetics.
Circa24: Real On-Set Learning
This year, EFD Studios was joined by Circa24, its latest educational initiative in film and acting, created in partnership with Animal de Luz, the production company founded by Inna Payán, known for her commitment to social and auteur cinema in Mexico, with acclaimed titles such as “La jaula de oro”, and her continued support of emerging voices in the industry.
Circa24 is a hands-on film academy focused on real set experience, where actors, technicians, and filmmakers are trained under real production conditions and guided by active industry professionals. Its proposal is further strengthened by strategic partnerships with key institutions across Ibero-America, including the Escuela Nacional de Cine de Colombia (ENNAC), the Madrid Audiovisual Drama School (MADS), the Instituto Latinoamericano en Ciencias Cinematográficas (ILATACC), the Mexican Society of Cinematographers (AMC), and the Mexican Gaffers Association (AMG). These alliances are complemented by collaborations with creative companies such as Cenit Estudio Creativo, Spaceboy, and 146XR, which contribute specialized knowledge in virtual production, immersive technologies, and new narrative formats.
A More Horizontal and Self-Driven Industry
During the event, Nico Torres Payán, Director of Circa24, shared the project’s core philosophy:
“Circa24 was born from an alliance between EFD Studios and Animal de Luz. Here, we aim to teach students to be self-driven—to create their own projects, to be fearless, to keep going. The goal is to build a more horizontal industry, where we are all equals.”
