From April 29 to May 3, 2025, <\/span>EFD Studios<\/b> had the honor of participating in the 15th edition of the <\/span>Sal\u00f3n Internacional de la Luz<\/i><\/b> (SIL 2025)<\/b>, an event that has become one of the most important platforms for education, collaboration, and exchange within the Ibero-American film community in Colombia.<\/span><\/p>\n

This year\u2019s edition explored the creative and technical relationship between painting and light, examining how this historical connection continues to influence visual storytelling in both photography and cinema. At <\/span>EFD Studios<\/b>, we were proud to support this vision by <\/span>taking part in the event\u2019s technical programming, highlighting the vital role of cinematography<\/b> in the filmmaking process.<\/span><\/p>\n

A space for learning, community, and inspiration<\/b><\/p>\n

Over the course of five days, we had the chance to engage with cinematographers from the <\/span>ADFC (Colombia), AMC (Mexico), and AEC (Spain)<\/b>, as well as colorists, technicians, audiovisual professionals, and students.<\/span><\/p>\n

The agenda featured film screenings, masterclasses, hands-on workshops, panel discussions, mentorship sessions, and technology showcases. Topics ranged from image development and cinematography in period films to HDR workflows, on-set communication, and the latest innovations in lighting and lens technology.<\/span><\/p>\n

The involvement of organizations such as <\/span>FELAFC, ADFC, AMC, AEC, and ABC<\/b>\u2014along with the support of leading companies in the industry\u2014underscored the event\u2019s regional and international reach. For <\/span>EFD Studios,<\/b> SIL 2025 was a meaningful opportunity to share our expertise, gain new perspectives, and reinforce our commitment to the continued growth of the Ibero-American film industry.<\/span><\/p>\n

Our Participation at SIL 2025<\/b><\/p>\n

Masterclass: Vintage Glass \u2013 Recovering the Past (<\/b>Recuperando el Pasado<\/i><\/b>)<\/b><\/p>\n

We hosted the masterclass <\/span>Vintage Glass \u2013 Recovering the Past<\/i><\/b> (<\/b>Recuperando el Pasado<\/i><\/b>), led by cinematographer Serguei Sald\u00edvar, AMC.<\/b> In this session, Sald\u00edvar shared his career journey and his passion for rehoused vintage lenses, underscoring their continued relevance in modern cinematography.<\/span><\/p>\n

Attendees were taken through the history and evolution of these lenses\u2014many originally created for still photography\u2014and how they have been brought back to life through careful technical adaptation and mechanical restoration. Sald\u00edvar also presented his curatorial vision: to build a cohesive lens collection with a consistent visual identity, where every lens\u2014from wide-angle to telephoto\u2014complements the others. He highlighted unique pieces from <\/span>Petzval, Leica, Zeiss, and Nikkor<\/b>, noting that all lenses in the set share the same front diameter, making on-set work more efficient.<\/span><\/p>\n

This project, developed in collaboration with <\/span>Georgina Ter\u00e1n, CEO of EFD Studios,<\/b> blends technical expertise and strategic vision to offer the Latin American industry a distinct creative tool with a strong identity.<\/span><\/p>\n

More than a technical showcase, the session was an invitation to rediscover the texture, depth, and emotion that these lenses can bring to contemporary filmmaking.<\/span><\/p>\n
